Vacancies at The Manor Residential Home

I thought it may be helpful in these uncertain and difficult times to update you on how The Manor Residential Home is managing any new referrals for either respite or long term care placements.

We are happy to accept new residents providing the person does not have a positive COVID-19 test or displaying COVID-19 symptoms. When accepting a new resident we have put some additional security arrangements into place to ensure we are protecting our current residents and staff as well as the new resident.

We will carry out telephone assessments with the potential resident, family or current carers. This can be on the same day as the referral if needed, and an admission date arranged as soon as practical and according to the urgency and need of the new resident.

On admission new residents are asked to self-isolate in accordance with government guidance where they receive the care and meals they want and staff wear full PPE when entering their room. We feel this is essential good practice to ensure the virus does not spread within the home. We recognise that some people might find this difficult and we ensure that the resident has access to recreational items including TV, radio and any other past items they enjoy, such as books, word searcher, crosswords, jigsaws etc. The resident is also given a mobile phone to use (whilst self-isolating) which they can make video calls with family and friends.

After self-isolating the resident will be able to join in with our other residents in our newly devised daily life where people can mix together, take part in activities and dine together whist socially distancing as much as possible.

We will continue to review government guidance but in light of lockdown being eased, this adds more risk to care homes opening up and therefore we will continue to remain safe only with the support of our staff, residents and families. We have therefore put in place the following measures to accomodate visits:

* Making full use of Patio outside the home
* Encouraging residents to go onto the secure terrace, weather permitting.
* Planning the landscape of front lawn to allow for more visits and create a new garden space for residents
* Perspex screens added to allow visitors to see their families in the home by appointment only using the conservatory

We welcome calls from family and friends asking about our residents and we continue to communicate with families when needed.
